Abstract

This research aims to shed light on the elements of "enunciation" and "narrative structure" in the tale Bluebeard by the French writer Charles Perrault, as well as to analyze storytelling and discourse techniques, along with related and unrelated texts in the context of this tale. The uniqueness of this study lies in its use of the folktale as a literary text for teaching and learning French as a foreign language. Its content primarily focuses on the study of Bluebeard, but it does not stop there; it also seeks to explore various types of folktales with either oriental or occidental origins. The study also examines the sentence as a written or printed text on one hand, and on the other, highlights the speaker's marks within their discourse. However, it is more appropriate to focus on the characteristics of "narrative enunciation" before addressing the "narrative structure." Furthermore, this research differentiates between narration and discourse based on Émile Benveniste's perspective in his book Problems in General Linguistics, which serves as the guiding methodological framework for this study. This approach is justified by a series of readings we have conducted on folktales, which revealed that tale writers deliberately incorporate discourse into their narratives. Readers can observe this stylistic practice through using various forms of personal pronouns, verb tenses, and semantic structures. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the distinction between narration and discourse within the folktale text itself and to utilize this distinction in French language teaching and learning as a foreign language.
