Abstract

The image is considered an artistic criterion in evaluating poetry and its use because it reveals the reality of the poet and his talents, and the image was represented in the poetry of Ibn Zaylaq al-Mawsili as the essential artistic means for conveying temptation as well as the surprise and admiration it performs, so the poem is a clear-cut image or a group of integrated images to convey special feelings and events which is located in the vicinity of the poet, Therefore, this research came to study the image in the poetry of Ibn Zaylaq al-Mawsili by analyzing it according to the ancient rhetorical and modern critical criteria to reveal the aesthetic and artistic values ​​and to derive the indications that it generated.

The research was based on an introduction and two sections, the introduction included defining the concept of the poetic image, and the first topic was devoted to studying (the poetic image according to the old rhetorical standard) in terms of: the simile image, the metaphorical image, and the metaphorical image, while the second topic dealt with the study of (the poetic image according to the standard Modern Criticism) in terms of: the still image/ the dynamic image, the partial image/ the overall image, and the simple image/ the composite image
